Catherine Carty is Project Manager for the UNESCO Chair in ‘Transforming the lives of People with Disabilities their Families and Communities in Physical Education, Sport, Fitness & Recreation’ at the Institute of Technology Tralee, Ireland. With academic beginning in Physical Education, Education, Mathematics and Medical Science, Catherine has worked in academia over the years while maintaining active and relevant links at industry and policy levels in Ireland and Internationally. Catherine has diverse experience in the areas of inclusive physical activity, wellness and education through her programme development, lecturing and research experience with the Health and Leisure Department and the UNESCO Chair at the Institute. As manager of a globally focused research centre that adopts an inclusive strengths based approach to human capacity building and human flourishing Catherine aims to maximize the impact of diverse thinking and interdisciplinary approaches to develop practical, sustainable solutions to maximize opportunities for wellbeing for all.
In addition to providing sports training and competition, Special Olympics Ireland also incorporates a range of other support opportunities including Athlete Leadership, Health and Wellbeing and a Volunteer Programme.
