What are Inclusive Communities

Enhancing communities provision in sport and physical activity for people with disabilities.

Access to sports should be diverse, fulfilling and inclusive for every member of the community. We encourage all to broaden the range and quality of sport and physical activity opportunities for people with disabilities so that they have equal awareness, access, choice within their community.

Inclusive Communities Projects

Through coordinated and targeted projects, CARA aim to increase awareness and opportunities for people with disabilities participating in sport and physical activity.

Sports Inclusion Disability Programme

The Sports Inclusion Disability Programme (SIDP) offers direct local provision and local support to enhance opportunities for people with disabilities to participate in sport and physical activity, within their own communities.

Inclusive Communities Case Study

INSPIRE Multi Sport Club

Cork Sports Partnership, in association with the HSE, established INSPIRE Multi Sport Club at the Glen Resource & Sports Centre in 2015. The club is an evening multi-activity sports & social club for adults with and without disabilities. The 8 week programme offered participants an opportunity to try a wide range of sporting activities, the programme concluding with archery on the final session. This was very exciting way to end the programme as, for many participants, it was their first time to try this activity.

John who participated in the programme stated “I like doing sport every Tuesday, I enjoyed soccer & archery”.

The club recommenced in January 2016 at the same venue and the group are excited about being introduced to some new activities.

David who also participated in the programme said “nice to meet friends each week & play sport, its great fun”

“nice to meet friends each week & play sport, its great fun”

I personally thought it was great. Katie, Leanne and myself are now implementing a program for children with disabilities because of it. For me it was the highlight of the three years.

CampAbilities gave my son an opportunity to go to a camp and it didn’t matter that he had a vision impairment. It showed him he can do anything he wants to do. It built him up and encouraged him to take part in sport regardless of his vision impairment

It gave me a chance to get over my fear of heights and that I can still do it even though I have a visual impairment
